Brandon DeSilva and Blake Burgess ended the powerboat racing season on a strong note after sweeping class honours in the season finale at Spanish Point Boat Club Race on Sunday.

The pair led the A class across the line in the two 25-minute races contested on a rectangular course in the Great Sound to cap another successful campaign in their 19ft Ocke Mannerfelt boat.

“It was a great day for racing and I would like to give thanks to the Spanish Point Boat Club and the Bermuda Power Boat Association for hosting and putting on a fantastic race day and to all the spectators who came out to support us,” driver DeSilva told The Royal Gazette.

DeSilva and co-pilot Burgess led the entire racing fleet across the line in the opening race and were fourth overall in the second.

Chris Marshall and Santiago Roe and Marcus Pimental and girlfriend Amber Furtado finished second and third in both A class races.

B class honours were shared between Steven Meireles and Tai Bean and rivals Jody and Tony Carreiro.

Meireles and Bean won the opening race but opted not to compete in the second, which father and son duo Jody and Tony won in their absence.

The Carreiro pair also secured a podium finish in the opening race after crossing the line in second, followed by Jahcai Morris and Jeneko Place in third.

Morris and Place also demonstrated tremendous consistency on the day in finishing second in the second race, with Damon Morris and Jorde Smith rounding off the podium in third respectively.

Chad Sutherland and Lee Wilson and Bobby DaCosta and Josh Holders were the only competitors in the C and D class races.

After racing concluded the BPBA donated $3,000 to St John’s Ambulance.

“On behalf of the BPBA committee, drivers and co-pilots we presented St John's Ambulance with a cheque in appreciation of their continued service to us,” the association said in a statement.

“Their dedicated volunteers are always ready to assist and we send a huge thank you to them. Without them we wouldn't be able to race.”

The BPBA also thanked course marshals, coastguard, harbour master, senior and junior competitors and vendors for their support throughout the season.
