Education grant winners are the ’write stuff’
Two young Bermudians studying journalism abroad have been picked by the English-speaking Union for the organisation’s higher education grants for this year.
The two recipients are Samantha Soares and Alisa Bernardo.
Each will get a boost of $3,500 to help with their studies over 2020-21.
Ms Soares, who has received an ESU award for the past two years, is in her final year at Exeter University in Britain studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.
Ms Bernardo, who also received an ESU award last year, is studying for a Bachelor’s degree in journalism at Leeds University.
The ESU offers annual awards to Bermudian students who are studying for degrees in English and related subjects, such as journalism, to encourage the study and use of the English language
The ESU is an international, non-profit, nonsectarian and non-political organisation formed in London at the end of the First World War to encourage communication and understanding among English-speaking peoples.
There are more than 50 ESU branches around the world.
The Bermuda branch of the ESU was formed in 1922 and has continued to support education, public speaking and debate for young people in Bermuda.
