Man faces rape charge from 40 years ago

A 60-year-old man was yesterday charged with a serious sex assault almost 40 years ago.

The man, from Sandys, was accused in Magistrates’ Court of an alleged rape of a woman on June 5, 1983.

The defendant and the alleged victim cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The man did not enter a plea as the case must be heard in the Supreme Court.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe adjourned the case until February 1 and released the man on $5,000 bail.

He ordered the defendant to have no contact with the alleged victim.
