Students, family and friends will walk around the Arboretum at Onionpatch Academy’s second Annual Walk-A-Thon fundraiser from 10am on Saturday, April 12th. Families can also enjoy a healthy lunch and then let the kids work off their excess energy by playing in the park. The money raised will be used for outdoor play equipment and for educational supplies, such as puzzles, blocks, and manipulatives. The registration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for children, and that price includes a goodie bag and a healthy lunch. For more information, or to RSVP by April 7th, contact 296-6466 or info@opacademy.bm. Pledge sheets and registration forms can be downloaded from www.opacademy.bm.

Enjoy a walking tour, seeing parts of the island you normally don’t get to visit and taking in places of cultural interest and beauty, at Bermuda National Trust’s legendary Annual Palm Sunday Walk on Sunday, April 13th. The distance is around five miles (2.5 hours) and so is not suitable for strollers. The location has still to be announced but the walk will begin at 2pm and ends at the same place. Participation is free, although donations are appreciated. For more information, contact 236-6483 or palmetto@bnt.bm or visit www.bnt.bm.

The Frog and Onion Pub would like you to hop on over to Dockyard for their fourth Annual Frog Race on Sunday, April 13th from 6pm. Six frogs will be created by local artists and these will be auctioned off at the beginning of the night. The new owners of the frogs (usually a group goes together to bid on them) then organise their ‘jockeys’ for each race. The Frogs are laid at the starting line and then they are moved along the race track by the jockey at the other end. The frogs can only be moved by rolling string over a bamboo stick. There are six races and the crowd can bet on a frog with two-to-one betting. The winners collect vouchers for the amount that they win and can choose between vouchers for Frog and Onion or for the Arts Centre. All proceeds go to the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard. For more information, call the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard, or for dinner reservations, call the Frog and Onion at 234-2900.

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art presents the works of Alan Smith in the show ‘Sky Gazer’ in the Rick Fairies Gallery from Friday, May 30th. The work that Alan is currently creating for his ‘Sky Gazer’ series is comprised of manipulated digital photographic images that are predominantly male nudes set against a backdrop of Bermuda sky. He has also written poems and crafted songs around the subject matter. The text and some of the images touch on themes of memory and reflection — sky as a mirror that is unfixed. The opening reception will be from 5.30pm until 7pm on Friday, May 30th and the show will run until Wednesday, June 11th. For more information, contact 299-4000 or artmworks@logic.bm.
