Oft times, as we navigate our Island’s roads or worst still, search for that increasingly elusive parking spot, we mutter the same thing over and over again: “There are just too many cars on these little roads.”
But, do we really mean it? Sometimes I wonder because no matter how conjested the roads may be, it never ceases to amaze me how many new vehicles hit the road in the blink of an eye.
Whether Class A or Class G, it seems like every day someone is driving off the lot in their brand new car, kissing their old (and most times, not so old) hooptie goodbye.
With so many models to choose from, it is no wonder it sometimes takes a family weeks to make a decision.
You know, the funniest thing happened to me when I was looking for a new car a few years ago.
Along with finding a car that matched my budget, you would never guess what feature I wanted more than anything else...cup holders!
And you know what, because I assumed that all cars made in the new millennium would have them, I never bothered to ask.
So you can only imagine my dismay as I was ready to drive off the lot when I<\p>began looking for my beloved cup holders ( I had even bought an ice cold soda for the occasion) only to be told that the car did not come with any!
Yeah, go ahead and laugh at me, but you have no idea how my heart sank that day.
Never mind I finally had air conditioning and power steering that actually worked, I wanted my cup holders.
One lesson I learned from all of this...always have passengers in your car, they are the best cup holders a car can have! Oh, and never not ask any questions, as sometimes the simplest things just aren’t so simple.
In this edition of Island Cruisin’ you will find a preview of the new, larger cars which were previously not allowed on Bermuda’s roads because of their size, as well as a glimpse of some motorbikes and boats which are also available in dealerships Islandwide.
We also spoke to veteran car audio installer Antoine Place who discusses the latest advances in technology.
If you are interested in doing some recreational sail racing this summer, read Jodie Thompson’s article on Wednesday Night Sailing. No matter how you choose to cruise on our roads or waters, please remember to be considerate of others, and most of all, be safe!
