While planning your wedding will take up much of your time, you also have to apply for a marriage license. First, you need to file a “Notice of Intended Marriage” with the Registrar General, along with a fee of $210, plus $21 for the marriage certificate.
Forms can be obtained from the Registrar’s office.
A copy of a final divorce decree, if applicable, must accompany the form, while widows and widowers have to include a copy of a death certificate. Next, the notice must be published in two local newspapers — this cost is included in the $210 fee.
Assuming there is no objection, the Registrar General will issue your marriage licence 15 days after receiving notice and the licence is valid for three months from the date of issue.
If you prefer a civil service as opposed to a religious one, the Registrar General performs these ceremonies at their offices in Hamilton for a fee of $172 - payable on the day. You have to be 18-years or older to be legally married in Bermuda.
