Following a Supreme Court decision last month, Bermuda Digital Communications Ltd. is once again fully licensed to provide wireless broadband service, otherwise known as the “Bull”.

CellularOne launched the “Bull” service in April last year and this “always on” wireless high speed internet access product was aimed at home-users and afforded data speeds from 300 kbps to 1.2 Mbps. However, in November last year the Minister of Telecommunications and E-Commerce put a stop to the distribution and use of the “Bull” in Bermuda.

The Minister ruled that the “Bull” service was not within the terms of CellularOne’s Public Telecommunications License after CellularOne requested a review of the terms and conditions of its license and the inquiry was undertaken by Telecommunications Officials in response to industry participant complaints.

CellularOne’s Chief Operating Officer, Michael Leverock was ecstatic about the Supreme Court ruling, which restores this cutting edge wireless telecommunications technology and superior care for its broadband service.

This year Mr. Leverock is going one better. This summer CellularOne plans to introduce a new user device, fondly called the “Bionic Bull” to the public. The new “updated” version will provide users with voice, broadband internet and Wi-Fi capability.

“This translates into a more symmetrical throughput experience while providing the customer with on average 500Kbps (up and down) and bursts of up to 2Mbps,” Mr. Leverock explains.

Bermuda Digital Communications Ltd. is the Island’s largest and most advanced cellular carrier.

The company operates under the CellularOne brand and recently deployed a state-of-the-art 3G network which places the company and Bermuda at the global forefront of cellular technology alongside 160 countries including Korea and Japan.
