O<$c$>ften regarded as supernatural, faith healing has perhaps more skeptics than any other form of non-medical treatment. Christians see the healing of the lame and even a person being raised from the dead in the Bible and all just from being touched by the prophet Jesus. In more modern times we’ve seen seemingly miraculous healings of the blind and the paralysed by TV evangelists like Oral Roberts, Peter Popoff and Benny Hinn. Getting much less attention than the television programmes there are several people who believe in healing by the laying on of hands. Many local Christians use the laying on of hands together with their medical treatment. They take the view that they need as much healing as they can get.

Bermudian David Nayish also known as David Ashdown junior is a deeply spiritual man. His father was a medical doctor. Mr. Nayish claims to be able to heal people not just of their physical ailments but also of their mental and emotional strife.

“I am a holistic doctor and psychic channeler,” he said. “ I channel light and love.”

He has studied many different healing techniques including reiki, hypnotherapy and guided imagery. He also is a certified geriatric nursing assistant.

Non-denominational, he said he is a Christian, who honours and respects all religions. “But I will be Christian all my life, until the day I die,” he added.

In his healing work Mr. Nayish said he is able to work with both those who believe and those who do not.

“Just because you don’t believe doesn’t mean that I cannot work with you. It doesn’t mean you cannot benefit. There is always an opportunity for people to grow. People can change,’ he said.

He explained that his methodology is able to heal people because it is supportive and positive.

“I am able to facilitate better well being by being able to sense their problems and imbalances,” he said. “Most of us are negative thinkers and are opposed to change our perception of our lives to a more positive and supportive world,” he said.

In his treatment sessions he asks clients what it is they want to achieve and then sets them on a positive path to realise results. He said all different kinds of people come to him for help — many of them are skeptics.

“They come to me and say: ‘I have heard that you did this. Can you help me? Are you really who you say you are?’ They want to test me and I say: What do you believe you can do?”

Mr. Nayish uses different techniques to help and heal his clients depending on their individual problems or conditions. He said he has one method called So What’s the Problem Bermuda?

“It helps people solve their problems no matter what the problem is,” he said. He leads clients through a step-by-step process that allows them to claim what they most want to experience next in their lives.

“Through this process they achieve this,’ he said. As with most psychological treatments, healing time varies greatly.

“It takes as long as it takes for the individual,” he said. “ Our egos distort our truth. But I’ve seen miraculous results where it was as short as three days.”

The three-day case saw a woman who had been unemployed for over two years, become employed. “It is not a coincidence,” he said. “The person had done everything they could do. Had gone to countless interviews, sent out resumes, used their friends network, and nothing succeeded.

“I’ve had a lot of incidence of this happening with clients,” he added. “A lot of people come and say they are in financial difficulty, the bank is about to repossess their car or their home and then within a week of seeing me, the bank seems to change their tact and the people find they have more time.”

Mr. Nayish said the bulk of his work centres on faith healing — on people believing in themselves and what they can do. “It is a re educating of their attitudes,” he said.

“Do what you fear and watch it disappear.”
