<Bz10f"HelveticaNeue-Roman">The latest exciting line of Peugeots is due here this Spring,
Peugeot dealer Jeff Stirling is thrilled about the 207s which have already successfully debuted in Europe, building on what is already very strong brand.
The Hatchback 207 will sell for around $32,000 and the hard top Convertible for around $45,000 — both E class size — and both should be sure-fire sellers, said Mr. Stirling, who has been Peugeot General Manager for 19 years.
“They came out in Europe about a year ago but it has taken a while to get it to us.”
One of the reasons was the BMW/Peugeot engine had to be tweaked to cope with gas in this region where high grade options are not available.
The new models have most of the features of the 307 but they also have a speed limiter which sticks to a set mph.
Just the thing for driving safely and avoiding getting snared in those pesky Police traps — but it can be overridden in emergencies by pressing hard on the throttle.
But then safety has always been a key Peugeot strength and the 207 will not disappoint, with six airbags fitted as standard. The 207 also borrows from the 407 in the use of two front impact absorption structures.
They distribute impact energy more efficiently in the
New features, such as static directional headlamps, make it easier to identify a pedestrian about to cross the road or a cyclist riding at the side of the road. The structure of the 207 has been designed to resist impact levels even more severe than strict European tests.
The 207 is also one of the first vehicles to be designed to meet the requirements of the new European directive concerning pedestrian impact protection.
But style hasn’t been sacrificed for safety. While the 207’s soft curves and bold contours create an an elegant look which still retains a recognisable visual link to the classic Peugeot format.
Anti-pinch electric windows which automatically stop if they sense a stray finger or a head sticking out are another nifty add-on as is the rear parking back up radar which beeps as you get nearer danger while the dashboard also indicates how close you are to bumping.
“If four lines appear it means you are about ten inches away,” said Mr. Stirling. “I use it for parking, I don’t even have to look sometimes. It makes parking easy.”
Gear boxes which can switch between manual or automatic are also a selling point.
“It’s a great little engine,” adds Mr. Stirling.
There’s also remote control central locking, the control for the sound system is in the steering wheel and there’s a built-in CD changer for six discs in the dashboard.
The 207 doesn’t just look and sound good — it smells good too.
A fragrance diffuser discreetly incorporated into the fascia panel diffuses a chosen scent into the passenger compartment.
Seven individual fragrances will be available and all have been specially developed by a leading French perfume supplier.
