Gale force winds and non-stop rain did not put a damper on Nicole Caines’ spirit, as she helped co-ordinate the Bermuda Monetary Authority’s move from its former residence into its new corporate headquarters on the corner of Victoria and Parliament Streets.
As the principal, facilities and document manager of the Corporate and Financial Services Ms Caines played an intricate part in the move.
“The weather was so bad at one point that we had no choice, but to shut down the offices,” said Ms Caines, who was involved in the interior design process, co-ordinated the efforts of the contractors and sub-contractors and ensured that the move was timely and on budget.
The young woman proved that she was up to the challenge.
“As part of the Move Steering Committee, I was responsible for the Move Coordinators.
“It wasn’t difficult to co-ordinate the move, we simply prepared a project plan, selected a steering committee as well as move co-ordinators from each department.”
Although it was a big job moving an entire company from one site to another, Ms. Caines and her core team at the BMA were determined to complete the move regardless of the weather conditions.
“We were supported by everyone at BMA to ensure that the move was a successful one.”
She stated that they moved in two stages, the move began on January 3, of this year, and was completed a few weeks later.
“On the moving days everyone knew their responsibilities and they followed through until the move was complete, which made the whole process an easier one,” she went on to say.
Ms. Caines is a graduate of the Bermuda College where she received her diploma in Business Administration. She also graduated with distinction from the Banking Administration Institute of Retail Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
She has been an employee at the BMA for just under a year and day-to-day activities usually include management of the premises, premises asset and security, documents management, and project management.
At 39, Ms Caines’ career has consisted of vice president of retail banking at the Bank of Bermuda (HSBC), assistant vice president of pensions at Bank of Bermuda in the Isle of Man, as well as organisational development consultant at Peoples Pharmacy.
During her tenure at the BMA she has spent a great deal of her time doing, not only her regular duties, but attending to the job of moving.
She feels confident that the public will appreciate the efforts of the management and staff once they see the effort.
“I believe the public will appreciate the new facility, it has an excellent Note and Coin Exhibit as well as the new training facilities, which will allow for growth of the Authority over time.”
