'We're like one big happy family growing rapidly'

This woman is not your average senior administrator; in fact this dynamic and resourceful 35-year-old works directly for the Assistant Director of Human Resources at the Bermuda Monetary Authority.

Deshan Thompson’s job requires hands on assistance and she has her hands in everything from providing support to the Assistant Director to recruitment of new employees. Ms Thompson has to deal with employees on a daily basis in a courteous and professional manner, but this comes easy to her, as prior to working at the Authority she worked at the Government’s Human Resources department.

At present, because of the new facility, the Authority plans to have ongoing training of the staff in their deluxe training suites.

“I contact attendees and department representatives concerning training programmes,” she said.

“I have to prepare and distribute training aids such as instructional material, handouts, evaluation forms and visual aides.

“I am also assigned to ensure the audio-visual equipment and refreshments are ready and available as well as make presentations when necessary.”

As a part of the Moving Committee for Human Resources Ms Thompson had to co-ordinate, attend and keep her team abreast of the status of the move. “This included bringing any questions and concerns back to the move team,” she said.

“I was responsible for making sure we were all packed up and everything was labelled in an efficient manner.

Ms Thompson has been at the BMA for just under two years and is extremely happy to be a part of the company’s inaugural move to their new facility. “After all the hard work put into the move I am very pleased with the facility and I feel great pleasure in coming to work everyday in such a fantastic and fabulous building,” said Ms Thompson.

“Now that everyone is housed within the same facility, things are a bit different — it’s great because now we are altogether under one roof.

“Every time I come in to work I feel the warmth and cosiness of the building and the employees seem very happy to be working here. We’re like one big happy family that is growing rapidly.”
