Wide range of furniture for baby

When you are expecting a baby, preparation is key, especially if this is your first child, writes Sara WestheadFew new parents ever expect the challenges of setting up a crib and putting together other large baby accessories, and when you wait until after baby is born to do these things, you may just find yourself overwhelmed.

Early preparation is key — starting early and buying necessary equipment slowly during the nine months of pregnancy will certainly help you get ahead of the game.

Fortunately, the new Phoenix Kids offers parents a one-stop shop where they will find everything that they need for baby’s nursery — the place that your child will likely spend the majority of his or her time, particularly during the first year.

What do you need? Well, to start with, a crib. Most children will remain in their crib for the first two to three years of their life before they are ready to move into a regular bed.

A sturdy, quality bed, where the distance between slats is less than 2-[3/8] inches, so that baby cannot put his head through, with drop sides so you can pick up your baby more easily, is what is desired.

In addition to a quality crib that will stand the test of time, you will also want to select a mattress. Many parents prefer a firm foam mattress over an inner-spring mattress, but it is really a matter of choice. It is important, though, that you buy your mattress at the same time that you buy your crib to make sure there is no space between the mattress and the crib sides where your baby could get stuck in the gap.

Bassinets, cradles and Moses baskets are all very useful, particularly during the first four or five months of his or her life. The smaller size of the bed may be more comforting to your newborn, than the wide open space of a crib. Of course, these items are also very useful as they are smaller and can be more easily kept near your bed for those middle-of-the-night feedings.

According to information on the Baby Center websiteU>www.babycenter.com), by the time your child turns one, you will have changed more than 2,400 diapers. The job can be not only hard on the nose, but also on your back.

In many of Bermuda’s homes, space is premium, so many parents may choose a portable changing station that can be attached to the top of a dresser, with a basket of supplies nearby. However, for those deciding to purchase a regular changing table, you need to make sure it is stury, it has a guardrail on the sides and safety straps, to keep your baby from rolling off the top. Many feature at least storage shelves, although fancier models double as dressers.

Parents shopping at Phoenix Kids will find a wide assortment of cribs, bassinets and changing tables available, including cribs with under-crib storage drawers and ones that convert into toddler, and even twin beds.

To provide customers with a visual example of a nursery, they also have a “four room” display, which allows parents to see a nursery set up, complete with crib, accessories and decorations.

According to store manager, Jacquelyn Napier, they plan on frequently changing those display “rooms” so that customers can see the wide variety of products available in the store, including beautiful bedding sets and room decorations.
