LEADING chess player Larry Ebbin was literally caught napping when he overslept and missed a crucial match against David Shanks, handing the 2003 Bermuda Championship to rival Nick Faulks.

Ebbin turned up at 9.30 p.m. after a long day at work - but it was too late and the title went to top seed Nick Faulks as Shanks was declared the winner over Ebbin, one of three co-leaders going into the seventh and final round, by default.
