Gorillaz: The pre-fab four...

WHAT'S up Bermuda? DJLT comes to you live and direct from Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica, where the Bermuda Regiment is having another stellar overseas camp. Contrary to what many people in Bermuda think, I continue to be convinced that there is hope for our young people, especially our young men.

In spite of the Regiment's detractors and opponents, this outstanding military organisation continues to provide an important service to our country and its young men.

More on this after the Top 20.

Although overseas, thanks to modern technology DJ LT can keep abreast of the goings on back home in beautiful Bda, which all the soldiers here in Portland miss terribly. So here are the most popular tracks shaking The Rock this week.

Soaring to number one is So Sick, a banging down tempo joint by Ne-Yo. Honeys love the track and brothers have to admit that it is a smooth joint that is good for setting the right mood when they're entertaining the aforementioned honeys.

Tumbling to number two is the kicking new joint from the Queen of R&B, Mary J Blige, entitled Be Without You. Jumping to number three is Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz. You have to hear this track and see the video. What creativity. The video shows computer-generated animated characters playing instruments, singing, dancing and putting on a wicked performance that amazes all audiences. I didn't even mention that the beat is hot (as is the entire repertoire of joints on the Gorillaz CD).

Falling to number four is Hung Up, the monster dance/pop anthem from Queen of Dance and Pop, Madonna. I don't care what y'all think, but Madonna is the bomb. Have you seen her lately; home girl still looks good and she is without question the absolute monarch of the dancefloor. The other night, I was chatting with my boy about looking for a track that I just cannot find; Madonna's staple track Holiday, remixed to the beat of Stardust's Music Sounds Better With You. If anybody has a copy, get it to me ASAP. Heck, I'll buy it off you at a price to be negotiated.

Up to number five is a former essential new joint - Nasty Girl by The Notorious B.I.G., Nelly, Diddy, Jagged Edge and Avery Storm. You just gotta like Biggy.

Up to number six is Yo (Excuse Me Miss) by Chris Brown. Slipping to number seven is Jamie Foxx, with his hit single Unpredictable, which is all over the radio and nightspots.

The bootielicious Beyonce is back in a big way, folks! Her new joint, a collaboration with Slim Thug entitled Check On It, advances to number eight.

Up to number nine is the new one by Dem Franchize Boyz featuring Lil Peanut and Charlay, entitled Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It. Tumbling to number 10 is the latest from Canadian/Guyanian diva Deborah Cox - House Is Not A Home.

Falling to number 11 is Grillz by Nelly featuring Paul Wall, Ali and Gip. Sorry, the new hit from Pop Queen Madonna, moves up to number 12.

Up to number13 is Busta Rhymes' new hit - Touch It. Improving to number 14 is I'll Be Your Light, by Kristine W. Up to number 15 is Rosabel's hot new hit, Rhythm Intoxication, which kicks.

Climbing to number 16 is I'm N Luv (Wit A Stripper) by T-Pain featuring Mike Jones. Improving to number 17 is the new one from Keyshia Cole, entitled Love.

Last week's essential new joint, Temperature by Yardie Sean Paul moves up to number 18. I haven't heard it in JA yet, but its getting a lot of play in America and in Bermy.

At number 19 is this week's essential new track, Stupid Girls by Pink .

And rounding things out at number 20 is Don't Forget About Us by Mariah Carey.

Now back to this week's word - the great work that the Regiment is doing.

There are some cynical people who could be accused of "player hating" against the Bermuda Regiment's troops.

However for every player hater of the Regiment, I can show you 100 people who fully support the concept of the Regiment, the great work that the Regiment does and who want the Regiment to continue doing exactly what it is doing today.

So, haters, you are in the minority; why not just shut up and do something positive with your lives or find another axe to grind because you are not going to win this one.

Bermuda needs a Regiment, whether we are a dependent country or an Independent nation. The younger generation will not volunteer so we need conscription. We need a disciplined organisation to be ready to restore Bermuda to normality in the event of a natural disaster or other calamity.

We need a large body of people to throw at problems and there is nowhere else in Bermuda where you can quickly assemble 400-500 people and deploy them to a problem area within a day.

Anyway, I digress. Back to the details of what we are doing here in JA.

The Regiment has taken 300 men and women to Jamaica and is giving them experience in navigation, weapons handling, construction, conventional warfare, fighting in urban/rural areas, leadership, man-management, teamwork, adventure training, living in the field, survival in the wilderness, fitness training, command and control (and I don't have space to tell you everything else on the check-list).

The soldiers who return from this trip will be changed. For the better. In addition to the military training, the Regiment is repairing and refurbishing the Portland Infirmary, which is in terrible condition. Thus, we will have helped our neighbour, thereby living out God's decrees that we should be our brother's keeper and that we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Unlike others, the Regiment isn't giving these concepts lip service; we are helping our fellow man.

The soldiers who return from Jamaica will have a newfound appreciation for how blessed they are to live in Bermuda and should be much better, more grateful individuals, who might now give thanks and count their blessings where they might previously have complained.

So, Bermuda, the Regiment takes a large body of Bermudians, many of whom are unwilling, lazy and unmotivated, and pulls out of them the greatness that lies within them but upon which they previously did not draw. God willing, this trip will go smoothly and without incident, accident or discipline problems, so that on March 18, 2006 we can bring home your sons, daughters, boyfriends and girlfriends in safe, healthy, happy spirits, having had the adventure of a lifetime.

Peace be with you ...
