Masterworks Foundation adds 'The Trimingham House' to collection
A PAINTING by renowned watercolour artist Charles Hopkinson will take pride in the Masterworks Foundation's new gallery and museum when it opens next summer.
The latest acquisition, The Trimingham House, was recently purchased from a Boston gallery by a benefactor who then donated it to the Foundation.
The watercolour measures 15 by 21 inches and was painted by the Massachusetts artist during a visit to Bermuda in 1940. Masterworks director Tom Butterfield explained that the painting, which is in "excellent condition", is significant for a number of reasons.
"So many people from overseas believe that Bermuda offers nothing but seascapes," Mr. Butterfield said.
"But this painting continues to disprove that argument. Many artists came here for a number of different reasons and architecture is one of them.
"The painting is in very good condition with a nice balance and vivid colours. Artists are continually getting re-evaluated and re-appraised and Hopkinson is someone who is very much on the rise."
The Foundation owns three other paintings by Hopkinson, who died in 1962 at the age of 93.
