Morris mixing with the celebrities!
HEAD pro of Belmont Hills Brian Morris will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of former cricket stars Desmond Haynes, Jeff Dujon and Brian Lara when he travels to Barbados in April for the Sir Garry Sobers Festival of Golf.
Morris, who is also head of the Bermuda Professional Golf Association, said: "When Brian Lara was in Bermuda a couple of years ago I played with him up here at Belmont and we got to know each other fairly well and he invited me down to Barbados for the Sobers tournament. It should be a lot of fun."
And Morris will be taking down Bermuda head football coach Kyle Lightbourne as his guest for the tournament.
The Sobers tournament will be a 54-hole championship which will take in three of Barbados' best courses ? Royal Westmoreland, The Country Club at Sandy Lane and the Barbados Golf Club. There will be 253 players in total ? 160 from overseas.
Morris also played in another celebrity tournament last year ? one organised by singer Michael Bolton in Connecticut.
Morris said: "When Michael Bolton came to Bermuda he was staying at the Princess and the hotel called up Belmont Hills and said he would like to play with a pro. So he came up and we played and he enjoyed it so much he cancelled rounds at Tucker's Point and Mid Ocean and played with me for three days. After that he invited me up for his tournament which is for charity and a large number of actors, entertainers and sportsmen played. It was great ? he gave me back stage passes (to his concert). I also played and gave a lesson to the actor Patrick Swayze up there. My wife was just drooling over him!"
Among those who have played in Bolton's annual tournament are Joe DiMaggio, Andre Agassi, Chris Evert, Jim Courier, Pat Riley, Barry Bonds, Joan Lunden, Rosie O'Donnell, Shania Twain, Mark McEwen and Tony LoBianco, to name a few.
