Promotions for firefighters

A VETERAN firefighter who has been battling blazes for more than a quarter of a century is one of three officers to earn promotion.

Lieutenant Morris White has been promoted to the rank of Divisional Officer in the Bermuda Fire Service.

Announcing the promotions yesterday, a Government spokesman said D.O. White had served for 26 years and had a wealth of experience.

"D.O. White is a 26-year veteran of the service and has served in various departments, " the spokesman said.

"D.O White was promoted to Leading Fireman in 1986, to Sergeant in 1990 and to Lieutenant in 1998. He is a trained Breathing Apparatus Instructor and fire investigator having trained in the United Kingdom.

"Divisional Officer White brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his current position as head of the Fire Prevention Division."

Also promoted are Shannon Caisey ? who joined the service in 1996 and becomes a Sergeant attached to operational duties ? and Wenda Godfrey, who has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Lt. Godfrey has been with the service for ten years and has been attached to Operations as well as to the Training Division as a Recruit's Course Instructor. At present she is responsible for Staff Office duties and the supervision of the Fire Service's Dispatch Centre.
