Premier of Bermuda Ewart Brown was all smiles yesterday as he made his way down from the House of Assembly in the Sessions House to the grounds of the Cabinet Building for the reading, by Governor Sir John Vereker, of the 2006 Throne Speech. In the front is The Black Rod for 2006, Supt. Michael Desilva. The Black Rod is a symbol of authority of the Head of State - or the monarch's representative when not in Bermuda, and is carried by a senior Police Officer.
