US teacher born in Bermuda seeks to find his birth parents

AN American teacher, who was born in Bermuda 38 years ago and was then adopted and taken to the US, is trying to track down his birth parents.

Elementary school teacher Dave Martocchio, who now lives in San Diego, California, is also seeking information about at least two siblings.

Mr. Martocchio has only sketchy details about his birth family. What he does know is that his mother was a British citizen, but he knows nothing for certain about his father.

He was born in Hamilton in June 1966 to a mother who had at least two older children, probably a boy and a girl. He believes the sister also went to the US, probably through an adoption.

Mr. Martocchio said: "The Salvation Army helped my birth mother find an adoptive family for me. I was adopted by an American family who was stationed at the Air Force base in Bermuda.

"I don't know anything about my birth father. I will assume he was white. I have wondered if he was also stationed in Bermuda."

He said he had never been back to Bermuda, but planned on returning, especially if any members of his birth family were still here.

"My adoptive parents are totally against my search," he added.

"Tracing my family would help me answer all of the questions I have about who I am. I often wonder about my brother and sister. Who are they and what are they doing?

"I wonder about the circumstances of my birth. Who was my birth mother? Who was my birth father? What did they look like? Where are they all now?

"Having these basic questions answered would help me put closure to this quest."
