Access Week
Access Awareness Week began yesterday and the least that people can do it to consider what it would be like to try and get around the Island with some form of disability.
While the Island has improved access in the last decade or so, too many places remain inaccessible to the disabled and they are all around us.
Many public places, including the House of Assembly and some courtrooms, are almost impossible for those in wheelchairs to enter.
Many offices and other buildings to which the "able-bodied" have easy access to may as well be mountains for those who are not.
Even existing elevators in buildings may not be suitable for people in wheelchairs.
The list goes on. But this week it would be worth looking around and considering what it would be like to walk in the shoes of someone who must live with a disability.
