Andrew picks up new scholarship for ocean lovers
Eight year-old Andrew Wallace last week pocketed $370 after he won a scholarship competition.
Well known local ocean explorer Teddy Tucker recently organised the Teddy Tucker Marine Education Scholarship to help promote interest in the areas of oceans and diving.
To qualify students needed to be between the ages of seven and 13 year-old, have attended Explorer Camps at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) and to have maintained good grades.
This summer Andrew attended Ocean Discoveries 2, an Explorer Camp at the BUEI.
During the two week camp he learned about the ocean environment, types of diving and undersea exploration, prehistoric sea life, marine fossils, the real sea monsters of the past, and pirates including the ones that frequented Bermuda.
He is a P4 student at Saltus and has maintained a B or better average.
Mr. Tucker said the ultimate aim of the scholarship is to be able to send a student to university.
