Angle Street's Centre to hold fifth festival
Saturday will see the launch of the fifth annual Back to School Street Festival at the Centre on Angle Street.
This year will host a fashion show that extends onto Angle Street. Previously the event was held in June and was called the 'Spring into Summer Street Festival'.
It will feature games, rides, table displays of arts and crafts and food stands along the sidewalks. Deeanda Bannister, Centre supervisor said: "The proceeds from the events will go towards raising funds for a van.
"The entire street will be blocked off and it will begin at 6 p.m. till 11 p.m. It should be a lot of fun, with the Gombeys kicking off the event. We have singers and dancers, various groups performing, the majorettes and poetry readings."
There will also be crowd participation activities like the Cha Cha Slide and a street auction and raffle. Mrs. Bannister said: "We will also be presenting awards to three community spirited individuals and one of them will be a teenager."
The Centre is a community centre which offers after school programmes, latchkey, Cubi Girl's Club and the Boy's Club, and seasonal holiday camps, free legal advice, continuing education, counselling and employment advice, jiu-jitsu, the Percussion Institute and the Bermuda African Dance Company.
