The Menuhin Foundation received a boost of cash from the Ross (Blackie) Talbot Foundation.

For over 30 years, the Menuhin Foundation, which is named after the world-famous violinist the late Yehudi Menuhin, has been bringing the art of playing stringed instruments to the Island?s children.

?Through the commitment and dedication of generations of its teachers, the Foundation has made music-making accessible to thousands of our children,? said Tim Counsell, Menuhin Foundation chairman.

?The Foundation?s School Programme provides free group tuition to all but one of the Government schools, all middle schools and the private schools.

?In addition it also offers a private tuition programme, the Saturday Music Centre, which involves the First, Junior and Youth Orchestras, music theory classes, and a Kindermusik Programme for the very young.?

Each year over 350 children participate in the Annual Student Concert, which is held each year at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium.

The trustees of the Ross (Blackie) Talbot Foundation, well-known for its philanthropy and support of the performing arts, have recognised the educational value of the Menuhin Foundation?s work.

They challenged the Foundation to raise $20,000 of new money from new donors, the Ross (Blackie) Talbot Foundation have matched that amount.

?As with many local charities, it is a constant struggle to make ends meet,? added Mr. Counsell.

?Our Foundation is extremely grateful for this wonderful gift and delighted that the value of our work in serving the community has been recognised by a much loved institution.

?The generous support of the Ross (Blackie) Talbot Foundation will be enormously helpful to us in carrying out our programmes and enabling us to meet our goals for the benefit of the community.?
