Feeling good about strings
Every Tuesday morning I have violin practice. This ritual helps me sustain my place in the Clearwater Middle School Orchestra. My two teachers, Mr. Lauder and Ms O'Brian are part of the Menuhin Foundation and as such teach scores of other Bermudian children how to play the violin as well.
In my class there are ten people including myself and four children from East End Primary. When we go to concerts all of the violin players from the different Middle School orchestras are there - Spice Valley, Whitney, Sandys and Dellwood all play with us. We dress formally, wearing white tops and black skirts and pants, the boys also wear black bow ties.
Our first concert was at Whitney Institute where we played two songs - "Mucho Mumbo" and "Killing me Softly". Opening the Middle Schools Conference at the Sonesta Beach Hotel this February was our second concert. Here we played for all the Middle School teachers in Bermuda plus some very important people such as the Permanent Secretary for Education and the Acting Minister of Education.
It felt good to see them watching us play although I already enjoy playing in the Middle School Orchestra very much.
