Hooray for Mr. Justice Greaves

We have read with interest the articles about the two American bullies who are currently serving 90-day sentences in a Bermuda prison. As an American, I am proud of the judicial system in Bermuda for not surrendering to the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the bullies? family members. When I visit Bermuda, I will feel safe to enjoy my vacation.

Standing up to bullies

Sentence was justified

October 13, 2006

Dear Sir,

My name is Michael Polito an American who comes to Bermuda every year. I agree with the sentencing given to the two men who assaulted another man. Violence is not acceptable behaviour. I personally feel the sentence was justified but perhaps the fine imposed not enough.

These men were guests of your country, are old enough to know that they have to accept responsibility for their actions . Their problem is they were caught.

The thought by Michael Donovan to use American politicians to coerce Bermuda to condone violent behaviour by light sentencing of his son is a despicable action.

Stay out of Bermuda

October 18, 2006

Dear Sir,

I read Ms Roberts? articles regarding the American men jailed for fighting. I found myself laughing at Mr. Thomas Donovan.

Mr. Donovan, I want you to know that you and your entire family as well as Pontieri?s family should please stay out of Bermuda. The people of Bermuda don?t want that kind of thing happening nor to be recurring again, so if you and your family and friends lack self-control and lack of respect for their laws, then stay out of the island. And if your son and Pontieri did the same in ?red China? the sentence may be harsher. In the US, the fines and sentences could be much longer and harsher as well. Your son and his friend sought to do Mr. Emanuel harm ... they followed him. So they deserved the prison time due to the consequences of their actions.

So how dare you, Mr. Donovan, say it was unfair. Bermuda is a beautiful island and many tourists return or encourage others or friends to visit. They want people to come and feel safe. Thomas Donovan you are out of your mind. Obviously Mr. Donovan, if you think you can get tourists to boycott Bermuda for what YOUR son and HIS son?s friend did, what these two juvenile men had done such harm to another tourist, you are a fool ? it was your son?s actions and ?the apple don?t fall far from the tree?. You didn?t apologise for your son?s actions. Why should other tourists boycott the island for your son and friend?s stupid actions? The tourists who come and fall in love with Bermuda, thoroughly enjoy themselves, respect the laws and return time and time again.Mr. Donovan, put your energy in helping your daughter-in-law and grandson. Make good of the situation don?t make it worst for yourself because you?re getting older and your family really needs you during your son?s three month tenure.

Three cheers for judge

October 14, 2006

Dear Sir,

I would like to applaud Mr. Justice Greaves for upholding the sentence imposed upon Mr. Donovan and Mr. Pontieri.

He is absolutely correct in his summation of the events and his ruling is just.

The fact that these two men are visitors to your beautiful country is irrelevant.

They chose to beat someone to the ground and break his jaw.

These were not the actions of husbands and fathers; these were the actions of drunken hooligans.

Now they will reap the bounty of their actions..three months in the dark place.

These men obviously lost sight of the fact that they were guests in your country.

I have had the privilege of staying on your beautiful islands several times and look forward to returning and spending time with your wonderful citizens.

Mr. Donovan Sr. has threatened to go screeching to Sen. Clinton. Good for him. What he fails to realise is Mrs. Clinton has no say in Bermuda?s affairs (thank God!).

And these are not the guests Bermuda wants.

Hurray Bermuda!
