Dear Sir,

Unfortunately I was not able to attend the forum on the proposed HSBC development.

I don't have a problem with embracing change but that depends on the nature of the change.

I can't think of one good reason why Hamilton would want to take on "the look and feel of other capital cities".

What makes Hamilton so attractive is its uniqueness which should be preserved at all cost.

It should be enhanced with a waterfront development, not blighted with a seven- storey block of concrete.

What other problems, other than lack of natural light, does traditional Bermudian building give the architects?

Not been able to maximise floor area perhaps?

And who are the HSBC to determine what is a reasonable balance between International Business and Tourism?

What I think we need is more of an equal balance between the two and this development will not help.

I would urge Mayor Lawson Mapp and others who care about the future of the city to lodge their objections with the Planning department by the deadline of November 11.

Dear Sir,

Re: Sovereignty.

It would be a natural progression for Bermuda to maintain its undoubtedly beneficial ties with Britain, its founder, by keeping open the option for sovereignty during Bermuda's next 500 years.
