LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Save the park
May 30, 2003
Dear Sir,
I write to add my voice to the writer of today's letter titled "Clean Up The Park". The Spanish Point Park is an absolute disgrace! I was born and raised in Spanish Point and quite frankly I have never seen the Park in such a run-down and run-over condition. The place is a health hazard at best!
Does anyone realise what a popular tourist spot this is (or was)? People take (or took) their children there to swim regularly. This Government and the previous one, for that matter, have allowed this once safe, popular public Park to become a drunkard-laden, drug-ridden, danger zone!
Here's the bottom line - if the UBP want my vote - work for it!

Wasting valuable land
June 1, 2003
Dear Sir,
I read with interest in a recent edition of The Royal Gazette that St. John Ambulance will be building a new office at Point Finger Road.
In a distance of a quarter of a mile, we have the Red Cross, a new building, PALS, a new building, Cancer Research Centre, a new building, and a new St. John Ambulance building.
It is my considered opinion that all of these charities could have erected one unit to service all for less cost and leave the land now used for other development. We are living in an island that is strapped for land.

Waiting to win lottery...
June 8, 2003
Dear Sir,
I have been following the saga of articles on David Allen's last minute health insurance coverage and am now convinced that I can wait to win a lottery before I buy the ticket.

Bring back golden oldies
June 3, 2003
Dear Sir,
If Cablevision wants to redeem itself then the shows from long ago should be brought back.
Shows like 'Airwolf', 'Blue Thunder', 'Auto Man', 'Falcon Crest', 'Fantasy Island', 'Hardcastle & McCormick', 'Crazy Like A Fox', 'Battlestar Galactica', 'Six Million Dollar Man' and the 'Bionic Woman'.
In terms of Fresh TV, how about trying a variety of music like rap, reggae/R&B instead of just constant dance hall for the young folk?

Still out of position
June 6, 2003
Dear Sir,
Two years ago, I pointed out to readers of your columns that a Hurricane Chart, kindly distributed free by Freisenbruch-Meyer, had shown the islands of Bermuda 120 miles further north than they actually are. Oh yes! the position in the grid was correct (32.20N 64.40W) but the grid itself (or, if you will, the USA coastline) was out of whack by two degrees of latitude.
In a reply, someone (the aggressive manner adopted suggested a person connected with the Company) ranted on about pedantry when he should have been more concerned with the incompetence of the person responsible for the pamphlet's production. The fact remains that the error has not been corrected and this is the reason for once again writing to you on the matter.
Showing our island 120 miles further north than it really is, the chart perpetuates the myth that Bermuda lies "off the coast or North Carolina" when its true true geographical position is due east of Savannah, Georgia (by some 990 miles).
