LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Return my flag!
November 2, 2005
Dear Sir,
As a part of the paganised Halloween activities, some little poopers stole the very large Bermuda flag from my flagpole at Scaur Hill. It was replaced with a stained pair of Calvin Klein men?s undies, symbolic perhaps of our great natural talent to soil the backyard that is our tourism and paradise home.
The Bermuda flag was much enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, many of the latter driving into the property thinking the flag advertises the site of Fort Scaur, which is round the corner.
If parents notice such a flag appearing in the possession of their dear offspring, it would be kind if they could have it brought back. In the meantime, I have found a battle-worn Union Jack that I will fly along with some foreign flags until my Bermuda flag is returned.
Justice for Rebecca
October 18, 2005
Dear Sir,
How can we as an Island, as a people of conscience, not become incensed at the brutal murder of Rebecca Middleton several years ago?
The article in The Royal Gazette quoting Mr. Rick Meens last week stabbed my conscience with the expression ?I will sell the farm if need be to bring justice to this case and have it re-opened.?
Do we have daughters? Do we identify? Do we say ?there but for the grace of God go I?? Could this young girl be yours or mine while justice has not been done?
The point of this letter is to solicit and to try to raise funds for the lawyers so that this case can be re-opened.
If we could find the funds, realising that the double jeopardy law forbids bringing the same charges ? many other alternative charges could be brought before the court to seek justice for this horrendous crime.
If I knocked on your door, would you give to this cause to give the Middletons closure and for Rebecca to lie in peace?
The conscience of the entire Island should be at stake; for if justice is not done this time, it will go down in the history books of Bermuda as a ?trail of infamy?. Then, sadly but hopefully, we will have top rely on, and I quote: ?Though the mills of God grind slowly, yet they grind exceedingly small; Though with patience he stands waiting, with exactness grinds he all.?
Sensing Rosa Parks
November 3, 2005
Dear Sir,
I had the good fortune to be travelling on our buses yesterday (November 2) when a seat was reserved on each bus for Rosa Parks as a mark of respect.
Several people boarded and sat in the empty seat, and were gently reminded that it was being reserved, and all apologised to the other passengers on the bus. It brought us all together, and I was sat opposite Mrs. Parks, in a fashion: I thought what a lovely lady she looked in the photograph on the seat.
I tried to picture and sense the revered lady sitting there, but I wasn?t able to do that at first. Then a very small schoolboy, in a bright blue sweater ? with what looked like a school name starting with ?West? on it ? came up the steps and found the bus completely occupied, even people standing in the aisle. He perched, for a moment, on the edge of Rosa Park?s seat, just to take the weight off. Another passenger pointed at the boy and whispered the words to get him off the seat. He stood up.
It was only at the moment that the child sat there that I sensed Rosa Park?s presence. She couldn?t have minded that one. And wouldn?t.

Use hotel for housing
October 17, 2005
Dear Sir,
?Club Med? will never be a successful hotel.
Why not make it into a single or couple apartments with a supervisor/janitor with strict rules etc. That will free houses for families. It is doing no good sitting there. We have a housing crisis. Do something now for our own Bermudians.
