Letters to the Editor: Speaking up for animals

I would like to respond to the letter from Voice of Conscience printed in the , February 1, 2006.Voice of Conscience wants to know why people who are outraged about the cruelty to animals, don't say anything about the cruelty to people. Well, excuse me but you must not read Letters to the Editor very often. I am and always will be a person who believes in expressing myself, whether you like what I'm saying or not. I must thank you for reading my letter, but you missed the point. The point was that this person could have called the SPCA and put the animal to sleep humanely. Please don't shoot the messenger; the person who should be shot is the one who cruelly disposed of this animal. I love all living things. I would protect any living creature from being cruelly treated if I could.

Speaking up for animals

February 2, 2006

Dear Sir,

I would like to respond to the letter from Voice of Conscience printed in the , February 1, 2006.

Voice of Conscience wants to know why people who are outraged about the cruelty to animals, don't say anything about the cruelty to people.

I have written many letters to the Editor in which I have expressed my concern about the way people are treated right here at home. I have also helped loads of people right here at home. I believe that we must take care of our own first, before we go handing our hard earned money away to other parts of the world.

Animals do not have a voice. Animals are the silent mistreated ones, right here in Bermuda and in all parts of the world. You may think that I care more for animals than people well, that's your opinion. All I know is I will never stop. I will never stop trying to help and bring attention to the problems of our land, be it with animals or people. You are so wrong when you say that the people who write these letters have never written before, well we've written many times before, we just happen to choose to write letters instead of going on talk radio. It make me sick to think that animals are kept cruelly, without shade, without water, without food, with terrible living conditions and all happening in our own back yards and it is our responsibility to report cruelty to animals. We have Amnesty International to take care of the people. (By the way, my animals are kept outside).

Give something back

January 30, 2006

Dear Sir,

The Bermudian community should give something back to their country. Take for example: I have worked at the Hospital for four years and I have lived in Bermuda for 20 years. I work as a pink lady in the pink caf? for at least six hours a week. I have learned many different techniques while working there. Working there as a volunteer fills my heart with joy because I know I'm giving back to the Bermuda Community. I also have to mention how well the full time staff and volunteers work together as one. Both sides work extremely hard to meet the needs of customers. So, I encourage the community to give at least two hours a week out of their schedules, to help volunteer at the Hospital/Pink Caf?.

P.S. The St. Teresa's Gift Shop is in need of some volunteers to work at different times during the week. I personally have worked at the gift shop for approximately three years. The gift shop is a good working environment. I encourage people to come to the gift shop and support either by purchasing an item or actually working as a volunteer. So, please consider working as a volunteer or just passing by to view our shop.

God Bless
