Dear Sir,

In 1941 my father, Edward Dolanski, worked in Bermuda as a civilian employee of the US Army Corps of Engineers. He was a mechanic who helped to maintain the heavy equipment used to build the airport. Garrulous, gregarious Ed walked with a pronounced limp; he may have used a cane even then, in his late 20s.

Like the original settlers of Bermuda, Ed arrived here after a shipwreck torpedo had sunk the Merchant Marine transport carrying him to Bermuda. Dad survived because he had become a proficient swimmer as part of his therapy for a childhood case of Polio.

If you knew my dad while he was here, I would love to talk to you. I am certain he made friends while here - he was the kind of person who would go out for milk and bring three people home for dinner.

From March 29-April 5, I will be staying at the Bermuda Biological Station for Research with a group of students from Washington County Technical College of Calais, Maine, USA. Please call me at the station or e-mail me at bbarrettwctc.org. if you knew my dad.

Looking for old friend

Dear Sir,

I am contacting you to find out if you can in any way help me to locate or find an old friend with whom I attended Parson College in Fairfield, Iowa, USA back in 1969 to 1972. Her name was or is Donna J. Bayles or Baile (not sure how to spell it) and she used to live (probably with her parents) in "Fern Acres", Wreck Road, Somerset Bridge, and her telephone number then was 4-8436, which I assume has changed or does not exist any more? I don't even know if she lives there any more.
