Mad Hatter party politics

February 9, 2009THE smell of corruption and dishonesty coming from Alaska Hall is getting to be worse than Pembroke Dump ever was. It is quite amazing to think that the Progressive Labour Party members who support all these "favored sons" and don't see anybenefit themselves, continue to be so afraid to stand up and be counted. Do they not understand that the rest of Bermuda - and many Bermudians living abroad - are laughing at them

They say you can't fool all the people, all the time but I am seriouslybeginning to think that Doc has been able to do this with the PLP of today.

Racial divisiveness; accusations that the entire media is against him and his cronies; attacks on the Auditor General (the absolute only person left who hasn't come under the 'political appointment' control of the PLP); and a very serious fear that the Governor is going to ask for a Commission of Inquiry into all this smoke.

When you've managed to control the judicial system and the Police; when you have managed to muzzle any kind of free press by withholding publicly-paid-for information; when you have friends in high places in the private sector and in the US Consul Generals office; when you have made it impossible for anyone in your regime to challenge you for fear of physical or financial reprisal or some other intimidation tactic - then we have all reached a point where we all need to ask for intervention.

This is the man you think should lead you....much less the rest of us ?

Are you listening Governor ? You are the representative of the Queen. If you don't think I represent the vast majority...go out and ask the public.

Addressing the new Court/Police building and the controversy swirling around it is too easy. Why do we just blindly accept it when Derrick Burgess publicly states that he isn't terribly interested in who owns the company that builds the place, he's only interested in their "capability"?

Two questions and a comment: First, if you don't know who owns the company (or maybe you do!) then how the heck do you know their "capability"?

Second, it's 2009, Mr. Burgess ... have you ever heard of Know You rClient, Money Laundering, Best Practice, Due Diligence, God forbid...Freedom of Information?

These are policies that Paula Cox has been slapping on everyone in the country and if the IMF heard about this sloppy "I couldn't care less attitude", maybe you'd be paying more attention.

After all It's $78 million of our money !!! And by the way, that's just the reason why Larry Dennis is the BEST FRIEND the rest of us have...at least he has the guts to stand up to you. And as to"'those cheques" ... well, if you know a printer, I suspect that you can print almost anything.

The comment/question I have is: Why am I and other members of the public asking these questions and pointing out these absurdities...but nobody in the judicial system is; nobody in the Police Financial Fraud Unit seems to be interested; the Minister of Finance seemingly accepts that it's OK to pay out $78 million of taxpayer money without even knowing who she's paying it to; the media seems to be tongue-tied and/or hand-cuffed; the Governor is barely reacting....what gives here ?

All you hot shots on Front Street...when are you going to start caring about "good governance" instead of what I suspect is a very rapidly shrinking profit margin ? Do you not understand that there just MIGHT be a connection here...bad governance eventually translates into bad business.

All you black Bermudians ....when are you going to stop accepting all this BS in the name of revenge or "it's our turn"....I guess when you say "our" you mean the Alaska Hall Boys?Ask 'em how much they are worth. See what they say ..,

When is anyone in a leadership role going to wake up and actually ask some hard questions and, more important, do some digging into these smokescreens. Hey, if there isn't anything there, Doc and Derrick, then theworst that can happen is we'll get some exercise and you can go on laughing..
