Masterworks to celebrate Art for All

THE Masterworks Foundation is to host a celebration of the visual arts over the Christmas holidays.Arts for All was first held last year and features a series of free workshops and artists' demonstrations for nearly all ages and abilities.

Registration began last Monday for the three-day event, which culminates on December 30 with a special family event.

"Masterworks is pleased to offer this community event free of charge as we feel it is so important to create the opportunity for individuals and families to come together to engage their creativity no matter what their level of experience or ability," said Carrie Zenti, Masterworks' education coordinator.

Workshops taught by local artists include a drawing class for teens and adults of all abilities with Vernon Clarke; Frank Dublin will explore the basics of Pastels in a two-hour workshop for persons aged eleven year and older; and for the same age group, Vaughn and Amy Evans will hold an exercise in creating art in reverse. The Junior Arts Club will be instruct kids between the age of five and 12 on art and craft; children aged six through 12 are invited to learn cartoon illustration with Tom Cooke, an artist involved with such successful shows as the Care Bears, The Muppet Show>and Sesame Street.

Muralist Steve Kenny will share his expertise in airbrushing with teenagers and adults and visiting artist Linda Wilde will introduce students to watercolour techniques with a botanical theme.

A host of demonstrations will also be conducted by local artists including Shawn Place, Michael Cacy, Will Collieson, Kendra Earls, Bermuda Guild of Stitchery, Peggy Couper, Milton Hill, Trevor Todd and Noel Simmons.

Volunteers are still needed for the event. Interested persons should contact Masterworks on 236-2950.

Events run 10 a.m. through 3 p.m., December 27 through 30. Admission is free, however registration is required for workshops with acceptance on a "first come" basis. Persons interested in registering should telephone Masterworks on Monday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Space is limited.
