Outstanding teens excel in academics, service

Some of Bermuda's finest young people scooped up awards at this year's Outstanding Teen Awards.The Overall Outstanding Teen was Saltus Grammar Academy student Tiffany Paynter, who aims to become the Minister of Education.Tiffany won the award for being involved in a host of community services and for organising Black History Month at her high school. She also began a summer day care programme for parents with a limited budget.

Some of Bermuda's finest young people scooped up awards at this year's Outstanding Teen Awards.

The Overall Outstanding Teen was Saltus Grammar Academy student Tiffany Paynter, who aims to become the Minister of Education.

Tiffany won the award for being involved in a host of community services and for organising Black History Month at her high school. She also began a summer day care programme for parents with a limited budget.

Other awards went to students who showed strong leadership abilities, participated in community service projects, sports, spiritual leadership, students who had made the most progress, showed incentive, those who were active in the performing arts and those were outstanding academically.

The top leadership awards went to Attiya Talbot and Neville Zuill.

Berkeley Institute student Attiya had dedicated over 300 hours volunteering as a Candy Striper and was nominated by The Bermuda Hospitals Auxiliary Board.

At Warwick Academy, Neville Zuill is deputy head boy and a house captain.

The Leadership Special Recognition award went to CedarBridge Academy student Zahra Muhammed.

The Most Progress Award went to Bermuda Institute student Clay Smith and Bermuda High School student Krystle Phillips.

Aside from studying, Clay also writes poetry, short essays and is a day release student with .

Krystle won because she has raised her grade average from a `D' to a `B'.

Awards were given to students who selflessly involved themselves in community service.

The overall winners of the Community Service Award were CedarBridge Academy student Josu? Paulos who organised a canned food drive and love boxes and Berkeley Institute student Shalane Dill who visits senior rest homes on weekends.

The Performing Arts awards went to Berkeley Institute students Shoa Bean and Eric Bean.

The Scholastic Awards went to Saltus Grammar School's Ashley Chandler and Bermuda Institute student Shammah Williams.

The Scholastic Special Recognition Award was awarded to Mount Saint Agnes student Tiffany Douglas.

Warwick Academy student Gareth Williams and Bermuda Institute student Sharai Brunson took home the Outstanding Teen Sports Awards.

Berkeley Institute student Estina Francis won the Spiritual Leadership Award and Johanna Traxel from Saltus Grammar School won the Special Spiritual Recognition award.

The award for the Spiritual Male went to Dennis Symonds from Berkeley Institute.
