LOTS of money available for the Premier's Christmas cards, little money for pensions. Why am I shocked but not surprised?

I ASSUME the only reason your newspaper continues to carry Alvin Williams' Commentary column in because of its unintentionally comic elements. That can be the only sane explanation as Mr. Williams certainly no longer has anything of worth to say about public affairs. John Brown is the only white American in history who is worthy of admiration? Critics of Dr. Ewart Brown within the Progressive Labour Party should hang themselves from Judas trees to atone for their "treachery"? Bermuda should build a new international airport in the middle of Warwick (the most densely populated area of the island) and set up a university teaching hospital (when we still can't teach our children The Three R's in the public school system)? There once was a time when I believed Mr. Williams' added considerable insight and intelligence to the public discourse in Bermuda. But, of course, that was before he became an unapologetic sycophant of Dr. Brown's - as well as an unapologetic propagandist for this Premier. Mr. Williams' is of course fully entitled to his bizarre and grandiose opinions (or, as is increasingly the case, the Premier's bizarre and grandiose opinions). But since this is still a democracy (at least for the time being), I am also fully entitled to completely ignore them.

I WOULD like to thank the Government for finally finishing the police station in St. Georges. The news that the building of the Park Hyatt will commence, is most welcome.

Special congratulations to the Honorable Kim Swan (pictured) and Mr. Kenneth Bascome for keeping these two issues in the fore.

Their tireless efforts in serving the people of St. Georges has not gone unnoticed. They have stayed the course in representing their constituents. The people of St. Georges must be proud.

Well done Kim and Kenneth, continue to keep up the good work.
