Somerset Brigade Band celebrates 76th birthday
IT was 76 years ago, February 12, 1930, that the Somerset Brigade Band (SBB) came into being. Its members keeping up a long-established tradition decided to mark the anniversary by parading to the Somerset Methodist Church on Long Bay Lane.
After participating in the service, which was conducted by Pastor Lynette Rayner, the band was entertained to lunch at the nearby Somerset Cricket Club (SCC).
February is also an anniversary month of SCC, and hosting the band was one of the events they happily tied into their week-long festivities.
Members of the band, together with its Women's Auxiliary, and ladies of the SCC, are seen above at the club prior to lunch.
SBB draws its members from all over Bermuda.
Its president is former Bandmaster Alan (Jimmy) Tucker. For the past six years, SBB's Director has been Major Leslie Lowe, retired Director of Music of the Bermuda Regiment.
