Students: Education key to future success

As the new school approaches, wanted to find out from school children whether they think education is important to them and why.

Bermudian students take education seriously and almost every student we spoke to said it was important to them because of the effect it will have on their future.

Mia Hunter, 13, said education is important to her. She added: ?You have to get a job that supports you and pays your bills, plus it?s hard to get a job in Bermuda.?

Padre Caesar said: ??It?s important because you can?t get work without it (education).? The 12-year-old added: ?I don?t want to be a bum.?

Noting that she wouldn?t have been able to answer a question on the spot without education, 11-year-old Shahzaade Warren said: ?You can learn what you?re supposed to when you go to work and when you?re asked questions.?

?It?s important because you learn more stuff,? said nine-year-old Jessica Manderson. Her friend, ten-year-old Paula Villacis added: ?You can learn more stuff for when you go to work.?

Another group of friends, Tyrone Pedro and Kilian Elkinson, both 14, agreed that education was important to them.

?Without education, I won?t get a good job,? said Tyrone.

?Yes, you need education to get far in life and succeed,? added Kilian. Kascia White, 13, said. ?Education is important so you can get a job and have success in life.?

?Without education you can?t get a head in life,? said 13-year-old Toniko Tucker.

?Because of the job I want, education is important so I can fall back on something,? said 13-year-old Tahj Bell. And nine-year-old Sara Schroder said: ?If you don?t have education there is a lot of things you can?t do.?
