Students focus on architecture
CedarBridge Academy placed its authority on architectural display and imagery when they won all the categories in the Bermuda National Gallery Competition.
As part of the Bermuda National Gallery ?House and Home? exhibition students across the Island were invited to take part under the theme ? What makes a house a home?. A presentation ceremony for all the finalists was held on Thursday, January 8.
The competition asked students to portray through an image their own interpretation of the theme.
Some students decided to focus on the architectural exterior of the home, others the interior of the home and on a more personal level the family within the home.
The outcomes were a mixture of observation, abstraction and imagination and all were of a highly commendable standard.
The entries were submitted in December and a final decision was announced early January with a clean sweep for the CedarBridge entrants.
CedarBridge won first, second and third place in the 16-18 year old category
First place went to Miguel Cabral with an ink rendition of architectural features found in Bermuda.
Second place went to Kebrea Wolffe with a mono-print image of she and her brother proudly posing for a picture on their first day at school.
Third place went to Diana Rodrigues for a lino-print image of her bedroom. Asked about her win she said: ?I enjoyed putting in the hard work and being rewarded in the end.?
Art teacher Bianca Hewson said she was elated to that her students did so well.
Each student got a certificate in a prize presentation held at the Bermuda National Gallery. Handing out the awards was Chief Education Officer Dr. Joseph Christopher. There were also vouchers and $250 cash for CedarBridge Academy?s Art Department. The funds will be used to purchase supplies for the department.
The Bermuda National Gallery said that in total 17 local schools participated with a total of 250 entries.
