Thugs batter middle-aged man in Hamilton

A MIDDLE-AGED man was left battered and bruised after being set upon by a gang of thugs in an unprovoked attack on Wednesday night. According to a police report, the 54-year-old victim was sitting on a bench at Albouy’s Point at around 7.20 p.m. when he was approached by a young man who, although friendly at first, began making threats.

The victim left the scene but soon realised that he was being followed by a number of younger men. They eventually caught up with him on Point Pleasant Road and, after insisting that he owed them money, began beating the man about the face and body. One of the assailants also used a helmet to batter his victim. The injured man was eventually able to call the police after breaking free from his attackers and when a patrol car approached, the gang fled.

Two suspects, a 20-year-old Paget man and a 17-year-old from Sandys, were subsequently arrested and detained.

The victim suffered a head wound but did not need hospital treatment.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the attack to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295 0011.
