The Island?s youth will share their ideas on the issue of race relations on Saturday.

Sixty students from upper primary, middle school and high schools across Bermuda will address the issue when they participate in a special workshop organised by the Commission for Unity and Racial Equality (CURE).

The closed event will be moderated by Gina Spence-Farmer and Ronnie Lopes.

Participants will view the film ?Brown Eyes, Blue Eyes?, an excerpt of the 1970s classroom experiment on how prejudice can be learned, and then they will break into group discussions on race, ethnicity, culture and differences.

They will also be treated to snacks and lunch.

The workshop aims to support a diverse group of young people in identifying and discussing their opinions on racism, cultural and ethnic identity. It will also address everyone?s experiences, perceptions and opinions.

?If we speak and act fairly and sincerely towards each other, we go a long ways towards building relationships and living in harmony,? said CURE?s executive officer Myra Virgil.

The forum is the first of several community wide education and awareness initiatives that CURE is planning to host in the upcoming year.
