Yes, Bermuda, it can and is happening here
January 25, 2008
WE, in Bermuda, often seem to live in a world where we believe "it can't happen here" until it does happen here. I suspect that the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands thought the same way when Michael Misick came to power a few years ago. Michael Misick is Ewart Brown's soul mate and he, for now, is the leader of the Turks and Caicos.
Let me say that I am more aware then most that black Bermudians, up until now, have seemingly cared very little about the level of competence and integrity ingrained in the Progressive Labour Party.
The black Bermudian population, not all but some, have taken the view that "it's our turn now" and "time to get a piece of what the white man denied us" rather than having any interest in unification of the races (despite what Mike Winfield and Rolfe Commissiong continue to feed us) nor the pro-active and capable administration of a small island nation. In fact, there seems to be a very prevalent sense that all is reasonably well in Paradise...
I think blacks and whites in Bermuda are going to wake up some morning in the not too distant future and find that we, and I do mean WE, have been hornswoggled by you know who. And if you think You Know Who and his roommate will be here in Bermuda when that happens, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
Bermuda has been awash with rumours of excessive dishonesty and corruption for a decade.
Now let me be clear, I'm no fool....I do appreciate that whites denied basic rights and opportunities to blacks for many, many years but if you, like Dr/ Eva Hodgson and others, argue that the past wrongs should be righted by present wrongs i.e. what is happening these days, then read no further.
But if you care about your future and your children's future, then you need to pay at least some attention.
First, recognise that Ewart Brown IS the PLP. No one has his power; no one has put in place strategic co-conspirators like him; no one has the intellect to actually challenge anything he does; no one has the audacity to challenge him; and there are very few in Bermuda much less in the PLP or the black population who can actually understand the possibility of what may well be going on here. Why do you think he wants Independence ?
Why do you think the PLP want a non-UK Chief Justice? Why do we have a 27-year-old, apprentice AG who may well be very intelligent but has no experience whatsoever. Why do you think ????
Second, pay attention to what is happening in the Turks Islands. Here are two websites of interest:
Read the Inquiry transcripts and you will get some sense of deja vu....where have I heard this stuff before ?
Read the news from T+C and hear about the fact that the Government can't make the payroll for ANYONE... where have you heard that before ...think Teachers, Police, Civil Service, Pensions...and you really thought it was a "computer glitch"?
Read all about a blatant disregard for following fair practices when it comes to doling out Government contracts.... think certain prominent construction companies and a bunch of other projects tainted by suspicion and costing millions in overruns.
In Bermuda there is NO transparency; no Freedom of Information; no real ability to investigate those rumours. So we just sit back and feel comfortable because we THINK all is well.
We listen to Dr. Eva Hodgson and Rolfe Commissiong and even US Consul General Slayton and we hear all about the desire for unity and supporting our Fearless Leader and we think it can't happen here.
We think it's fine to practice the same unfair, dishonest practices of the past in the interest of evening the score.
Well, read what you can at those two websites and see what can happen as a result...because it ain't gonna be pretty in the Turks and Caicos for a long, long time...
