Carnival enjoys sales boost

Cruise line company Carnival, which brings vacation visitors to Bermuda and a number of other Caribbean destinations, has seen record bookings after it decided to hold a one-day sale event for the upcoming vacation season.

And the success of the sale was so great that Carnival Cruise Lines has decided to hold a repeat event this week to capitalise on the momentum seen during the past six weeks, which included the one-day sale.

The company intends to hold a second one-day sale this Thursday.

The cruise company, which has 22 ships, 19 of which operate in the Bermuda and Caribbean region, enjoyed a record six-week booking period between the start of February and last Sunday.

It held a one-day sale on March which achieved the highest number of individual reservations in a single day, and that week was the single highest one-week reservations period in Carnival’s history.

Carnival is to offer another one-day sale event on March 22, providing best available upgrades within like cabin categories.

For example, consumers can book the minimum-priced balcony stateroom and receive a complimentary upgrade to the best available stateroom within that same cabin type, according to a press release.

“Clearly consumers are taking note of the tremendous pricing available right now on our Caribbean voyages and the inherent quality and value of a Carnival cruise vacation,” said Bob Dickinson, president and CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines.

“People may have been deferring vacation decisions earlier in the year, based primarily on continuing economic uncertainties, in our view.

“However, it is evident that, within today’s lifestyles, consumers view vacations as a necessity rather than a luxury and are making plans, particularly when the cost-value equation is virtually irresistible.”

Sample starting prices include $249 for three-day Bahamas cruises from Miami on the Fascination and $499 for seven-day Caribbean voyages from Miami and Port Canaveral on the Carnival Triumph and Carnival Glor>, respectively. All prices are per person, based on double occupancy.
