I'm voting for Charley
August 16, 2007
Dear Sir,
I had a visit tonight from Charley Swan who is standing as a candidate for the United Bermuda Party up here in Southampton. If Charley is the kind of candidate — black, white or otherwise — that the UBP is fielding next time around, then you can kiss the PLP good-bye. This young man is a true gentleman, knows what he's talking about, works hard and seems to really understand what it means when he says "I want to represent you..."
Back in 1998 I thought Randy Horton was a fairly good guy who used to play football and maybe that's why me and others voted for him. But he hasn't been seen in my neighbourhood ever. I think I will give my vote to Charley Swan next time. While I was talking to Charley it occurred to me that he has more confidence and more of a sense of responsibility than the PLP people. I wonder if it's because he knows what it takes to run a business and pay people on Fridays rather than just take the money and run.

Dance is alive and well
August 16, 2007
Dear Sir,
My wife and I would like to offer our praise and congratulations to the Bermuda Civic Ballet and the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda for their undeniable success at fostering some amazing dance artistry right here in Bermuda.
Marina and I had the pleasure of attending the National Dance Foundation's "A Night of Dance" back in February of this year. We both agreed it was the most enjoyable and inspiring black tie event that we'd been to in quite a while. And just this past weekend we enjoyed the wonderful Gala Anniversary performance of the Bermuda Civic Ballet, held in the Botanical Gardens. The combination of perfect weather and a fine performance made it an almost magical evening.
Dance certainly is alive and well in Bermuda. And we salute all of the leaders, organisers, teachers and students of both of these exceptional organisations for their important and successful efforts. All of Bermuda can rightly be very proud of these great organisations and the work they do keeping dance alive and well in Bermuda.

More kudos for Civic Ballet
August 16, 2007
Dear Sir,
May I use your column to congratulate the Bermuda Civic Ballet and its performers for an outstanding performance in the Botanical Gardens this past Saturday evening, celebrating 35 years of dance in Bermuda. A big thank you should also go to the many "extra" hands it takes to make something like this happen, not to mention the sponsors who have made this event possible. Well done and thanks to you all for creating a wonderful evening.

A laugh for the day
August 13, 2007
Dear Sir,
My laugh for today — and I quote from my Royal Gazette of today's date, page four. "Premier Brown says a Grand Slam with Tiger Woods is HIS crowning achievement as Tourist Minister." Funny I thought it was Tiger Woods playing out there!
