A great St. GeorgianSeptember 18, 2006Dear Sir,Last Saturday was KBB Clean Up Day. Hopefully large numbers of people gave a little of their time to help clean up not only the ravages of Florence, but the accumulated trash left behind by the careless, or maybe the uncaring, among us. One man who is an outstanding example of someone with pride in his community, spent most of Saturday and Sunday cleaning an area of roadside just outside the town of St. George.

A great St. GeorgianSeptember 18, 2006

Dear Sir,Last Saturday was KBB Clean Up Day. George.

Not only did he collect and bag trash, but he raked leaves and cut the grass. I would like to commend Mr. Gregory Smith, and bring his efforts to the attention of you and your readers. Should any of you come to St. George in the near future, please pause to admire the neatness and cleanliness of the roadside just before the town sign.

Sadly, I fear the area will not stay pristine long, as the unsightly and never used vegetable stand at this point is a hang out which attracts many, and their loud conversations and litter do nothing to enhance the entrance to our lovely town. One questions why this eyesore has not been removed. Once again, I say: “Well done, Mr. Smith. You set a wonderful example of stewardship to us all.”PROUD OF ST. GEORGE

St. George’sPremier’s selective hearingSeptember 20, 2006

Dear Sir,It amuses me to read in the paper today about the plan to build the hospital on the beautiful lands of the Botanical Gardens, and how now the Premier has said that the “door has been left open for a possible u-turn... but that will only happen if it is proven that the people of Bermuda are resolutely opposed to the building of the new hospital in the centre of the park”. So finally the Premier and the PLP will listen to the Bermudian people if it is proven they are “resolutely opposed” to this issue?

Is this selective hearing? What about the 14,000-plus Bermudians that represents over half of our voting population that has called for a referendum on the issue of Independence? What about those Bermudians that are “resolutely opposed” to the issue of independence? Does that just fall of “deaf ears”? Should we be thankful that the Premier and the PLP are finally listening to the people’s opposition, or angered over the “selective listening” they are performing? Keep it up Bermuda — if they start hearing our cries over this travesty, maybe they might hear others.AMUSED
