The pony that led Santa's sleigh

It began one breezy night as Santa was flying through the night’s misty cold air. He was on time, as normal, and on his way to Bermuda. He had just finished filling up the little boys and girls stockings in Florida. It was soon after her had left Florida that his sleigh started twisting and turning. He had no idea what was going on and began to worry. His reindeers were prancing about as the sleigh continued to shake. As Santa shouted out orders to his reindeer it began to get worse. As the continuation of the rattling went on Santa looked down to see what was below him. His jaw dropped he was terrified. Santa was in the Bermuda Triangle.

He tried to stay calm as it got worse and worse until he started dropping closer and closer to the sea. When he was about 30 feet above the sea level he wasn’t dropping anymore, he was gliding forward. By the time the rattling stopped he looked over to see himself flying over Europe. At this point Santa was not pleased. He also realised that he was going slower. As he looked ahead to count his reindeer he only counted eight, not nine. Santa was missing his most popular reindeer, Rudolph. As Santa directed his reindeer down to Denmark he read over the wish lists. As he was about to land he read the last one. It read: Pony.

After a bumpy ride down to Denmark Santa realised he didn’t have a pony to give to the little girl in Bermuda. He got out of his sleigh and went to sit on a nearby rock. He thought to himself “I’ve really messed up Christmas this year.”

Suddenly he heard a faint nicker. As he looked up he saw a small grey pony with big brown eyes, and a grey muzzle that looked like velvet, a long white forelock fell over its face and its little ears pricked forward and alert.

Santa noticed that the pony’s mane and tail twinkled like fairy lights in the glistening moon light. This pony would be perfect to lead my sleigh, thought Santa. So he explained to the pony that he had lost his key reindeer, and that his next stop was sunny and warm Bermuda where a little girl, with blue eyes and golden blonde hair, was expecting a pony for Christmas, and he had forgotten to bring one with him.

The pony, whose name was Misty, thought that this sounded very exciting, “Oh Santa,” he exclaimed with delight, “My twinkly mane and tail could lead your way tonight. “I am fed up with the cold and snow, I love to swim at the beach you know!”

Whereupon Santa harnessed him to the sleigh and proceeded to Bermuda. As they got a good take off they were on their way and Santa rushed on a bit for having a delay. To his surprise Misty was fast and light and deft. Santa looked at his compass hmmm 62 degrees West and 34 degrees North — must nearly be there. The sleigh headed downwards. Must be landing in the sea, he thought, but suddenly he spied land.

Misty’s mane and tail were twinkling, he saw palm trees and beaches and patches of green grass.

“Perfect,” he thought. This is the perfect place for me soft and warm breezes, no snow and a little girl who loves me. The sleigh set down and Santa unhitched Misty. “I hate to say goodbye my friend but this is my last stop tonight.”

“I was glad to help,” said Misty as he walked into a warm stable with hay, shavings, and water.

“I’m glad I could help you Santa” he said as he lay down feeling tired and happy.

Santa went on his way and Misty slept soundly until he was awakened in the morning by a little girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, “A pony,” she exclaimed! The pony I asked Santa for, for Christmas. Her parents looked surprised and looked at each other with amazement.

“And this just isn’t any pony,” she said looking at Misty’s red harness and a fluffy noseband and twinkling mane and tail: “This is the pony that led Santa’s sleigh to Bermuda!”

A day of excitement was ahead of the little girl. At around mid day it began to snow. No one believed it at first but as it went on more and more people came out to see. The pony was in the stable sleeping after his long journey to Bermuda.

The day of excitement brought smiles to all the little boys and girls and mommies and daddies and even grandparents all over Bermuda.
