LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Deadbeat employersMarch 25, 2008Dear Sir,

Deadbeat employers

March 25, 2008

Dear Sir,

Employees should not assume that, because their employers have deducted pension contributions from their pay, they will be entitled to receive pensions.

If their employers do not remit their pension deductions plus their own portion, employees will have no pension entitlement by not enforcing payment of pension contributions from employers.

The PLP Government is in effect colluding with deadbeat employers who are lining their own pockets at the expense of their workers present and future pension. Many of the workers have and are working in our hotels who are allowed to be cheated – by the PLP government and the union who most have supported.

Drugs and firearms

April 24, 2008

Dear Sir,

This one sounds like a movie gone bad, but it's what the Island is coming to. Statistically speaking sex, drugs and violence are the number one sellers in the movie business, but this isn't the movies. This shouldn't be a shock to God-fearing people, because we've been receiving these teachings for decades. Satan is destroying souls daily, and one must realise that it's only going to get worse. To be under the wing of God is the safest place to be during these times.

Let's look at the word drug and its defined meaning: A mind altering substance (that is man made) that causes many physical and mental changes within one's character. The biggest drug pushers are the scientists that manufacture pills, drops, medicine ect. The middle man is our family doctors and physicians. The neighbourhood pusher is the pharmacist. God created plants and other organic resources such as our own bodies to defend us against many illnesses (not going to go to deep with this point). The murderers are the doctors that prescribe the wrong drug for ones illness, and in many cases they don't receive a prison sentence.

So how can so many people be brainwashed by thinking that marijuana is a drug. First of all it's not manufactured by man, and it's a part of God''s creation (and God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. Genesis 1-11). The facts show that marijuana becomes a drug when mixed with cigarette, because they're man made. I may catch a lot of heat for saying these things, but it's not going to stop the sun from rising tomorrow (even though tomorrow isn't promised).

Last, but not least firearms … Over the years the sentence for firearms and ammunition has gotten heavier. At one point it was ten years for a gun, and five years per round (bullet). I would like to see how this one pans out.

To tell you the truth this may be the record setter right here and my heart goes out to all involved (especially all of the mothers).

It's enforcement, stupid

April 21, 2008

Dear Sir,

John Kane's letter in today's paper is another excellent example of a good message being preached to the converted.

His opening paragraph should be required reading by all motorists. "The greatest fear of a driver in getting behind a wheel is not that he will have an accident but that he will be stopped by the Police".

In the 1970s and 1980s, the local Police force enforced the rules of the road with authority. Drivers feared the Police. Now roles seem to be reversed and the Police fear drivers. They patrol in groups of two and three and maniac drivers continue to endanger everybody's lives.

We read there will be new initiatives to combat dangerous driving and reduce the death toll. Is it really necessary to reinvent the wheel or simply enforce existing laws with Policemen who are not afraid!

And don't just stop at speeding. Ban locals from riding livery cycles when they've been taken off the road, ban bus drivers who have one arm leaning on the cash till, ban the use of mobile phones period, ban all vehicles with tinted windows that prevent the occupants being identified, ban all illegible designer license plates and ban the practice of children riding on motorcycles in front of the driver.

Stop dumping batteries

April 17, 2008

Dear Sir,

Finding one or two car batteries at a dump site is not unusual. Finding dozens suggests that a local garage may be responsible.

With their lead and their acid, car batteries are a major source of toxic pollution.

Imposing a $25 tax on each car battery brought into the country, with a $25 payment for each car battery dropped off at the Waste Management Facility, would reduce the number being dumped.

Yours empowering the people,

ANDREW R. DOBLE
