Ban all sinners
March 27, 2007
Dear Sir,
I note that the AME church is objecting to Rosie’s gay cruise this summer since it is “incompatible with the Word of God and the Christian moral fibre of our beautiful Bermuda”. I’ve been expecting this and I believe I can help.
I suggest that, in order to show no bias whatsoever, the AME church insists that any person at all who has had sex outside of marriage should be blocked from coming to Bermuda. We need to send out a clear message that adultery of ANY KIND is “incompatible with the Word of God and the Christian moral fibre of our beautiful Bermuda”.
In fact, why doesn’t the AME church start with their own congregation and ban such sinners from attending, and contributing to their church collection plate.
Please note I will not hold my breath.

Welcome to Bermuda
March 27, 2007
Dear Sir,
This is an open letter to Rosie O’Donnell:
I am writing you this as a single voice among many who are against homosexuality and equal rights within Bermuda. I have decided to write a thank you letter via The Royal Gazette>hoping you receive this at some point before you dock within Bermuda Shores. I am actually a Canadian who is legally married to a Bermudian but due to discrimination my union is not recognised by the Bermudian Government as they claim that marriage is between a man and a woman and as such go against the human rights that are part of the European Union that is suppose to protect all EU lands.
We are gay men, both 30, and for the most part very happy. I thank you so much for coming to this Country and hope you can assist in some way for paving the way for equal rights within Bermuda for all of the gay and lesbian people that are part of this Country who are constantly discriminated against.
This is a British Island and as such Britain is very likely to lose EU Status if they do not abide by the European Mandate for Equality regarding same-sex unions. Please assist in whatever way you can to take this to the appropriate Government Bodies of the EU to put pressure on Britain to step in and resolve this issue once and for all for the spineless discriminatory Government of Bermuda. Shame on all of you. The once oppressed becoming the oppressors.
Above all, thank you for coming here to Bermuda, Rosie, to enjoy the land and waters that are beautiful with the exception of the hate-filled AME Church. I strongly suggest you take a tour on a jet ski — It is wonderful. Thank you again for brightening my life all through my 20s and now my 30’s. I absolutely think you are an Angel here to spread wonderful things to those in need. Thank you from the depth of my soul you are a wonderful and amazing human being.

It’s the law
March 30, 2007
Dear Sir,
I see in today’s Royal Gazette (March 30) that the gay/lesbian cruise sponsored by Rosie O’Donnell still plans to visit Bermuda sometime next July. There also appears to be a mounting local opposition to any such event taking place.
For those opposed to the cruise coming to Bermuda’s waters, a better tack would be to send Ms. O’Donnell a copy of Page 35 of today’s paper wherein the Human Rights Commission, in a full page public interest notice, discloses that it remains legal to discriminate against individuals based on his / her sexual orientation.
Armed with this information, Ms. O’Donnell (and all those who would accompany her) might rethink their position.

Save the longtails
February 18, 2007
Dear Sir,
Part of the Southlands shoreline that has remained undisturbed for many years is a prime Longtail nesting area. The nesting sites that are destroyed by excavation and concrete reinforcement of the cliff cannot be relocated to other areas. The Longtails already find it difficult to find homes.
They have the same shortage of housing as the rest of us Bermudians!

Irresponsible plan
March 23, 2007
Dear Sir,
I have long lamented (to Planning Department planners) the dearth of laws against bad design. OK, such laws would be un-enforceable, but there is a law against inappropriate design. The (overdue by five years) Planning Statement 1992 is literally full to overflowing with paragraphs, sub-paragraphs and sub-sections to paragraph whatever against a development such as Southlands. It is irresponsibility at its highest level to even nk <$>of such a development. I will concede to the possibility of it being good for Bermuda’s economy, but to think of placing a goodly stretch of our premier road under ground is tantamount to criminal. If you want to cross the road, push the (stop light) button and wait like every one else! That tunnel ambition smacks of the ‘more money than common decency syndrome’—MMCDS!
Also lost in the mad rush to obtain a “special development order”, is the matter of scale. To have such a huge structure virtually right on the coastline, runs totally counter to the directives as stated in the Planning Statement. Better to place the most imposing structure inland, and leave the space between the road and the coast for pools, bars and other relatively minor ancillary structures. It boggles the mind to contemplate that someone thought that they could actually get away with such a scheme.
So on behalf of all right thinking Bermudians, I on bended knee, implore you Minister Butterfield, to place this application firmly in the circular file where it belongs. Doing that will endear you to all of us. Our political persuasions notwithstanding.

Grow up, Gazette
March 29, 2007
Dear Sir,
I grew up in Bermuda in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I now live in Canada but I must say that it is sad that The Royal Gazette*R> has not evolved from being the bigoted, racist and small-minded paper that I remember from my youth. Grow up.

Sorry for bad driving
March 28, 2007
Dear Sir,
lease allow me a few sentences in this well read area of the paper and hope it reaches the right person.
To the person in the turquoise/aqua blue car (sorry, didn’t get make/model or licence number) who was travelling past the Woodbourne Chemist a few minutes after 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 27, I offer my heartfelt apology.
I was coming up the hill and couldn’t see past the cars parked and the sun is at a bad angle at that time of the day. By the time I saw you and stopped, I realised I was in the middle of the road and continued on.
I essentially cut you off and I truly did not mean to do that. I know that the evening traffic can be stressful enough without things like that occurring and of course, I couldn’t just stop the car and get out to say I was sorry.
So, I hope you read this and know that I felt terrible all the way home.
