A five star team October 21, 1999

As a professional travel agent with 30 years experience, I must write to comment publicly on how our recent visit to Bermuda during Hurricane Gert was experienced. My wife and I were house sitting for a friend when this storm started to approach Bermuda.

As the hurricane neared and the winds began to increase, we sought the relative safety of one of the Island resort properties. We proceeded to Cambridge Beaches, the Hotel closest to our location. I really want the opportunity to praise the wonderful level of service given to the guests by all of the staff of this property. Their advance planning made what could have been a dangerous situation a very interesting experience. The entire management team headed by Michael Winfield and his staff made the guests as comfortable as possible, the chef, Jean-Claude Garzia and Maitre D'Hotel, Alex Demes and staff, did their absolute best to provide for our comfort and needs.

They worked long hours under adverse circumstances as the west end was without electricity and the hotel was operating on emergency power.

We of course knew of the excellent reputation Cambridge Beaches has under normal circumstances. However, any hotel and management team and staff can be sorely tested by emergency conditions. Cambridge beaches didn't just pass, it did so with honors. I have travelled the world and have stayed in the best hotels. Bermuda can be proud to have Cambridge Beaches which is an good as it gets anywhere. Truly a five star hotel on a five star island.

Also, the team work of the Bermuda Police, electric, telephone and transport services is proof that we can send clients to your wonderful country knowing that regardless of the weather, they will be cared for properly. I do hope that Bermuda will be spared any additional hurricanes and that services and great weather have returned.
