We wish to refer to your three articles which appeared in The Royal Gazette in December 1998.

Where does one start? Tears keep swelling up in my eyes, my heart still panics with what has happened and could have been, yet, because of the reaching out of so many, how does one reach out to so many to say "thank you'' to our precious families, our wonderful friends, co-workers, acquaintances, stopping us on the street, post office, and saying "how are your daughters?'' All the cards, "teddy bears'', flowers, lotions, lip balms, pillows, PJ's, books, magazines, etc., from so many.

I know that in some situations a serious tragedy brings hearts, help, and encouragement to those in need. To all of you thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. December 6, 1998 was the day our twin daughters were in a serious car accident and our lives for two months were terrifying.

You helped us get through it, and we thank you.

I strive to keep our lives quiet, reclusive and private and when one's family becomes the focus of attention which is beyond one's control, one has to step back and view the whole situation and realise that people really do care and give without question, and you need not be afraid.

Our precious daughters Erika Thompson and Nina Thompson are wonderful. They are both back at school, happy, healthy, and having a blast enjoying being 16.

(A big 16th birthday party will finally take place this summer as December 6th was their 16th birthday). Finally, after three months, our lives are getting back to normal. Erika finally went back to school March 23, 1999, skipping all the way -- brace and all.

Through this horrific ordeal we learnt how amazing God works, the gift of Doctors and Nurses and Medicine, the gift of friends and families. All the positions, money, and events that have happened that one holds in one's life, mean nothing, if you don't have the love, trust, and respect of your children.

We learnt how amazing our twin daughters are, the strength and will they displayed. Erika is our "Miracle''. Words cannot express how thankful we are that she is doing so incredibly well, and Nina who is the "Pillar of Strength'' has a heart so full of love and tenderness. They say as parents we are to teach our children, and in this tragedy, our children taught us.

To all of you, thank you for the love, continued caring, giving and support.

We could not have done it without you. To those of you who have gone the "extra mile'' and you know who you are, from the bottom of our hearts we, the Thompson family thank you.

THE THOMPSON FAMILY Pembroke Gauntlett misleads public April 6, 1999 Dear Sir, We refer to Adam Gauntlett's letter which was published in The Royal Gazette on April 6, 1999.

Mr. Gauntlett has distorted the statements of CARE and continues to mislead the public. He has addressed some of the issues with invalid rebuttals and has left the remainder of our case still standing intact such as the statement of Professor Hamnerius of Gothenburg Sweden; the statements of the European Union Parliament; the serious concerns of very experienced experts such as Dr.

Carpenter, Dr. Goldsmith and Dr. Cherry. We note that Mr. Gauntlett was outraged in his previous letter that Dr. Carpenter should ever have been quoted in The Royal Gazette and questioned his credentials. Obviously Mr.

Gauntlett has now backed off that attack. Who says Dr. Carpenter has done no original research, not the famous Dr. Moulder again? Mr. Gauntlett needs to speak to the unit for Environmental Medicine in Salzburg, Austria and speak to the authorities in New South Wales. Dr. Moulder doesn't live in or have any association with New South Wales or Australia, for that matter. Why was he asked for an opinion? How bizarre that he should be quoted: "It's news to the people of Australia.'' We don't know the full context of Mr. Gauntlett's correspondence with Sir Richard Doll. His concern about cell phone towers was quoted word for word by us from the Sunday Times and his call for a study of workers in the industry is no doubt what the Sunday Times was referring to. We have invented nothing nor distorted anything. We can back everything we have said with documentation. We have for instance a copy of the joint statement of the Vienna conference, which was quoted by us truthfully. There are biological effects; there is insufficient information to set standards and there was an agreement that the public should have a say in the siting of towers. Speak to Dr. Cherry and give us your truthfully balanced summary of the workshop conclusions, which is the purpose of a joint statement.

The distortion of our statements by Mr. Gauntlett is most clearly demonstrated when he says CARE has made personal attacks. It is blatantly clear to everyone who might have followed this case that the first personal attack came from a Mr. Bearden, the irate neighbour, on Mr. Steve Thomson. The second came from yourself and was upon the Editor of The Royal Gazette and Dr. Carpenter. We have reason to question Dr. Moulder's objectivity yet we have never attacked him nor anyone else except in defence. We continue to take the high road. We are not perfect nor are our sources but we are not a bunch of liars as inferred by Mr. Gauntlett's unauthenticated "not true'' statements and we have no hidden agenda.

Clearly, Mr. Gauntlett, you have some reason to be personally vexed about this issue. Before making further statements or attacks, please divulge your motives and your qualifications.

CARE Warwick Appalled by story April 5, 1999 Dear Sir, What in the world are you lot trying to do with our young people? I refer to "The Young Observer'' and "Weekender'' section of The Royal Gazette , on Saturday, April 3, 1999. Some highlights, for those readers who may have missed your layout: Page 7: "Faith Put To The Test!'' describes a Church Youth Group's trip to Paget Island: "Learning A Little Bit of Elegance'' about a student etiquette course: "Learnalots Back On Air!'' A popular television series with school children as guides for Bermuda's History, Culture and Environment: "Concert Celebrates Christian Life at CedarBridge'' The trophy winning show Choir helping students who like to sing, impacting other students and bringing back a sense of pride.

Now turn the page (Page 9): "Musical Benefit for St. Anne's'' regarding a fund raiser towards restoration of the Church: "Animated "King and I'' Debuts Today'' gives information about a special showing of this musical masterpiece, in an animated version: "Easter Sunday Brunch'' advertisement for Cambridge Beaches and another "Easter Sunday Brunch'' at The Sonesta Beach Resort (advertisement).

Now turn one more page (page 11): "It's Not Swinging, It's A Lifestyle'' about an organisation with clubs "Where members engage in Multi-Partnered, Orgiastic Sex'' -- Huh? Mr. Editor, why? What kind of journalism is The Royal Gazette following with this kind of message for our Youth? This was a half page story with an 8 1 X 7 picture! The article continues: "They are your everyday, ordinary people, your neighbours, the people you work with'', "they question some basic assumptions, the first of which is morality. Morality changes year to year; sometimes...in a decade''. "A Socio-sexual relationship among three or more people, of which at least two are a couple'', "You may be having a threesome or a full-blown orgy with 20 other people''.

Can you Mr. Editor, or someone on your editorial staff, or even another reader, please enlighten me as to how good clean reporting on Bermuda's youth, cultural happenings on the Island, and a raunchy sex article from Toronto all appear in the Saturday Special Section of The Royal Gazette ? And choose the edition between Good Friday and Easter: A perfect display of in-your-face tabloid trash! AMAZED Warwick
