BTC charges too much October 11, 2000
Leaving Bermuda yesterday, at the Airport, a lady came asking my wife if she was willing to answer some questions about our stay in Bermuda. My wife answered almost all the questions with good, very good and excellent.
In the mentioned interview the question came up, what do you dislike in Bermuda. We did not have an answer at the very moment, but now it is very clear: BTC! On arrival back home, we found the telephone bill of our calls from Holland to Bermuda and learned that the telephone company in Bermuda is asking 14 times as much as the operator in Holland does.
Bermuda Telephone Company charged us for a nine-minute call to Holland $14.75.
Our Dutch operator charged us for a 7 minute 31 second call to Bermuda only Dutch Guilders 2.58 and that is a little more than $1.01. Both calls were at off-office hours.
We think that this is really a shame to Bermuda.
The Government must do something against the robbery by the telephone company, to keep Bermuda beautiful.
Nevertheless, we had a wonderful 14-day stay at a "guest house'' and have seen almost every interesting place on the Island. The ladies at the tourist bureau on Front Street were very helpful. Thanks to them.
