Noordam, the sister ship of the Nieuw Amsterdam was designed by Holland America -- named as the world's best cruise line last year -- for the New York-Bermuda run in 1984 for $160 million.

But she has never been a regular caller to the Island as Holland-America, represented by Harnett & Richardson, pulled out of the run before she was completed.

P&O Lines' Sea Princess' visit on Friday was marred by tragedy when 78-year-old Mr. Albert Rainbow was evacuated from the ship after it berthed in the Great Sound. He died at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital that night.

The Guernsey resident's body was scheduled to be flown back to Britain on British Airways yesterday, said Mrs. Stacey Coles, spokesman for agents Harnett & Richardson.

The P&O liner, with 501 passengers on board, was on the second last leg of a world cruise when she arrived in Bermuda. She berthed in Dockyard on Saturday morning and sailed for Tenerife, her last stop before Southampton, on Saturday afternoon.

Sea Princess has the distinction of being the first and last cruise visitor of 1992 as she is scheduled to return on November 24 as part of a Caribbean voyage.

Dockyard also hosted Crystal Cruise Lines' Crystal Harmony on Sunday. The ship, represented by Bermuda Travel Tours, was en route from Fort Lauderdale to Madeira with 665 passengers on board.

In freight news, the Oleander arrived on Sunday and was due to sail yesterday after unloading 210 containers, 37 of which were refrigerated. She also brought two 40-foot truck trailers and one car to the Island.

Bermuda Islander was scheduled to arrive yesterday afternoon with 82 containers on board, 109 of which were refrigerated. She is due to sail today.

The US Naval Air Station played host to Bold Venture this week when she called with 24 containers. She was due to sail yesterday.
